Uh... okay, I guess it is essentially a slipjoint. A modern slipjoint, but a slipjoint nonetheless. When I hear slipjoint, I guess I instinctively think of the more traditional Case/Camillus/Queen style ones. For those who don't know much about Spyderco's slippie construction, I went and found some pics:
